Good condition. Color is clear and vivid with good saturation. It shows some sign of ageing but there are not remarkable stains, wrinkles nor crease. Borders and backside as in the picture. The bottom right border has been fixed and there is a tiny hole on the red cartouche left black border. It is not been backed nor trimmed.
Currently set in the Chiyoda district of Tōkyō, during the Edo era when the city rose up as the center of the military power, with the founding of the Monzen block (monzenchō) inside it Yushima became a residential area
for lower rank vassals of the Shōgun.
Yushima Tenjin was revered and worshipped as the God of learning and study by any citizen, despite of theri rank or social status.
In the genroku (1688 ~ 1704) era a shrine dedicated to Confucius was moved in the area from Ueno and a Shogunate government authorized educational facility (the Shōheizaka gakumondokoro) was established too.
